"Auckland based designer James Dobson created the label Jimmy D in 2004, winning the prestigious Mercedes Start Up Award with his first collection. Jimmy D’s signature look is dark, with a wry sense of humour, combining deconstructed, androgynous, over sized silhouettes with body conscious elements.
Jimmy D continues to win new fans the world over each season and is currently stocked in 20 boutiques through out New Zealand, Australia and the USA and has been featured in international publications such as Japanese and Korean Vogue and Sportswear International where Jimmy D was selected as one of ‘The eight most directional collections today’."

Ever since a saw Jimmy D in one  of the first ever Remix magazines that I bought, I have had a small obsession with his collections. I love the dark feeling to it. It is raw and there is no prettying around. His collections are what they are. Nothing less and nothing more.
I love everything about his design style. From the loose fit to the long hem lines, the use of chiffon to the leather harnesses with long, sharp studs. PURE HEAVEN IN MY EYES.
I have seen the ENCHANTED cape dress before but it didn't have the CHRISTOL harness underneath, and it really adds another dimension to the dress.
I wish I had the shirt in the first image. It is really quite lovely. The long collar, loose fit, low scooping hem line at the back and the long pieces of fabric coming off the sleeves creates a fresh and totally new concept to the white collared shirt.
Needless to say, Jimmy D is defiantly one of my favourite brands that have ever come out og=f good old New Zealand.

Fashion | A.L.C Autumn 2012

All Images Via A.L.C Ltd.
Oh how wonderful.
I love A.L.C. It is official. I am marrying this brand. Everything is just so perfect!! The prints, the cuts, the texture, the style, it is all there and it is perfect!! And they have the same shoes as they did in the Pre-Autumn lookbook. So perfect. I am also very into the minimalistic makeup. It is very fresh and doesn't distract from the garments.
The last two outfits are my favourite from the collection. I love the coat! Looks so fluffy and warm and I love the navy blue colour. (Navy blue is my obsessed with colour of the moment.) Just perfection.
I have said perfect a lot... but it is really the only way to describe it. Perfect, perfect, PERFECT.
Check out my post about A.L.C Pre-Autumn Collection here.
(p.s who loves the bright ginger hair on the first model? So very perfect.)
(p.p.s is it just me or do A.L.C always find the most amazing models?)

Inspiration | Decline of Discipline, Troels Carlsen

I have had these images saved in a folder on my laptop desktop for MONTHS and I have finally gotten around to posting them.
I don't think I need to comment on this, the piece speaks for it self. Carlsen in an  artist that I am going to keep a very eager eye on from here on.

Inspiration | Shadow Painting with Rashad Alakbarov

Using various everyday objects and back light, Azerbaijani artist Rashad Alakbarov creates amazing and mind blowing shadow paintings.

Trivial | Sea Nomads

Image and words in quote via did-you-kno.tumblr.com
'The Bajau Laut people of the south-western Philippines and Indonesia live their entire lives no the sea. Know as the "sea gypsies" or "sea nomads", they inhabit amazing villages built on stilts in the middle of the ocean.

Many Bajau people do not set foot on land except to trade fish and sea cucumber for rice and (ironically) water, build new boats, or bury the deceased. In fact, they some times report feeling"landsickness" when they do!

Even when the fragile driftwood settlements are decimated in the typhoon season, or ransacked by pirates, they just take their boats and start to build a new house.

These amazing people are so at home in the water that their bodies have physically adapted to it, giving them better under water vision and the ability to hold their breath for up to 5 minutes while free-diving for their dinner.'

What an amazing way to live.

‘A show that was held in what seemed to be an old hospital ward, lined with two rows of beds. On each bed lay a girl, fully clothed and apparently asleep. Guests were asked to sit in bedside chairs, as if hospital visitors. And then the “patients” woke up and walked down the middle of the “ward”. They were wearing clothes constructed from clean white sheets and knitted blankets, and had bed socks on their feet’
It is amazing what designers come up with to showcase their collections. This has to be one of my favourite. So chilling. So effective. If a collection is still being talked about 13 years later, you know you have created an amazing collection!

Sound | First Breath After Coma

First Breath After Coma by Explosions in the Sky.
An amazing, purely instrumental band. I have loved this band for years and I decided that it was time to share the love. I personally think that any one of any music taste can relate to their music. There is so much energy in their songs and you can feel the emotion that they are putting into their music. I always get to emotional/motivated to do things with my life after listening to their songs.
My most played song on my laptop is another one by this band called Your Hand in Mine. I insist that everyone looks it up. Amazing.
Just stop for a moment and listen.

Trivial | Eye Miniatures

In the 18th and 19th centuries, wealthy British and European lovers exchanged eye miniatures, love tokens that captured the gaze of the recipients significant other. They were worn on the lapel as to be close to the heart.
Less than 1,000 are thought to exist, often both the owner of the piece and the subject within it are never identified.

Fashion | A.L.C Pre Autumn 2012

So clean. So nice! So just.... YUUUUM.
I want everything from this collection. Everything is so wearable! So chic. I LOOOOOOVE the masculine under tone that is in ever piece, with the collars on dresses, dress pants, boxy shape and block colours. But there is still that femininity in the more masculine pieces with tailoring and softening of collar edges and smaller shoulders. They have also mixed textures and materials very craftily and everything seems to fit and flow. Pure Genius.
My favourite has to be the brown pant suit with the denim shirt buttoned up to the top. Très Chic!
I also love the use of leather. It is tailored to perfection and it has a casual/formal feel.
And last, but definitely not least, THE SHOES. Oh My, Oh My, OH MY. To be honest I am not the biggest fan of pointy shoes, but these babies have converted me! They are very simple, but were the first thing that I noticed about the collection.
And yes I know that this is old news, and  I was going to post about it A LONG TIME AGO but I may or may not have forgotten....
